A tower to reach heaven
Let’s make for us a name
Else we’ll be scattered over the face
of the whole world
Then to see the city and the tower
down came the LORD
Behold this monolithic people
Their wordstock is one
Look now what they’ve begun
Thinking they can do whatever they want
C’mon let’s go down and remix their lexicon

Break up this rebellious union
Foolish clarity to saving confusion
Haughty harmony and their godless schemes
To blessed cacophony of manifold speech

They were babelin’ on but now we’re speaking in tongues
Since the Spirit’s come
Egotism a wall, but like our fortunate fall
The Spirit’s made us a world of beauty
Ten thousand diverse tones, divergent once
All languages lead us back to The Word

Pick up your bricks and lay them down
We can’t build this anymore
Seeds in the gardener’s hand
We are sown, scattered, and grown
by the LORD
Bloom into song ten thousand flowers
of the earth
Behold I will pour My Spirit out on all mankind
Your sons and daughters shall dream and prophesy
Look now what they’ve begun
Ends of the earth have seen salvation
Every tribe and tongue and people and nation

Ten thousand tongues sing our Redeemer’s praise
The glories of our God and King the triumphs of His grace
Gracious Savior and my God assist me to proclaim
To spread throughout all the earth the honors of Thy name
